Girl Friday: What I Would Do For You

What I remember the most from my childhood is my mum often taking me to different cafes. I've been to kindergarten for exactly a month in my life, and I spent those days waiting for my mum by the window, and the teachers lamented that they'd never seen a child like that. That deep longing for my mother in my childhood still gives me a hollow feeling inside.

I wished from the bottom of my heart that some day I will never have to walk the stairs of the kindergarten, never have to nap during the day, and play with kids I really didn't want to socialise with. And finally came the evening - my mum arrived with her flowing blonde curls, took my hand in her cold palm, and we went home. One day mother announced that she won't take me to the kindergarten any more, and she'll stay home from work. I've never asked how she felt after leaving... But it seemed that she was happy with me.

That day was the start of our adventures together - mum introduced Tallinn Old Town to me, took me to exhibitions, and we'd usually stop by at least two cafes. I remember the chocolate covered puffball and Moscow pastry that were my favourites. I vaguely remember the dames who sat around the tables and sipped coffee along with their conversations. Thanks to my childhood, I'm the world's biggest cafe visitor, and it's always a special event for me. Why did I remember all of this now and am writing about it? Because when I looked at the opening image of this post, it seemed to me that I'm seeing my mother - I'm a replica of my mum in that photo. What kind of memories can a photo trigger? The weekend is ahead of us. Remember your parents, take your mum to a cafe and don't forget to treat yourself to a cake!

Nädalavahetus on ees.
