VIDEO: Amy Winehouse Makeup Tutorial

Amy Winehouse died on 23 July 2011 at her home. Before her death, she had drank vodka in her bedroom and watched videos of herself on YouTube on her laptop. When the security guard found her in the morning, there were three empty vodka bottles on the floor, and a laptop next to the deceased in the bed.

Although Amy had won the battle with drugs that summer, she returned to alcohol a week before her death, and the reason of death on her death certificate was - alcohol poisoning. Indeed. The note put out by the judge was a snap back at all the spiteful people who were sure that the musician had found her way back to narcotics. Amy died clean. There were no illegal substances in her body. I discovered Amy for myself on the day her death was announced. Yes, I'd written tens of news of her as an online reporter, and the last story I published before her death, left the feeling that things weren't going badly in Amy's life.

I remember the announcement of Amy's death quite well, because I was working for the biggest online news site in Estonia, Delfi, and it was my shift during that day. I remember it being a hot summer day, and I decided to take a break and stretch myself otuside. I went to the garden, turned towards the sun, and relaxed .... Then my phone rang. My colleague called and said that Amy Winehouse is dead. I wrote different stories about her the whole evening. Even today when I'm writing these lines, I feel the heat of the sun that day on my shoulders and remember how I picked tens of photos into her remembering Amy photo galleries. I listened to Amy's songs for the first time with attention that day. I wonder how many people are there who discovered Amy for themselves on her day of death?

Some time later I decided to do Amy Winehouse makeover at Stellarium. When Dr.Hauschka's makeup wizard Karim Sattar came to Estonia, I went to his makeup course, and I caught Karim listening to Amy Winehouse from his iPad to set the mood before he took the stage. It was a sign for me. And so was born our makeover. It's been the most fun photo shoot of Stellarium's history. When we were shooting and filming, we had tons of fun. Car drivers were waving, passers-by stopped for a moment in curiosity. And at the same time it's been the saddest makeover. I almost wish I hadn't watched so many documentaries about Amy later. I really didn't know when she sang "... my daddy thinks I'm fine" in 'Rehab', she is telling her story through the lyrics she wrote. Indeed - rehab was recommended to Amy, but as Asif Kapadia's documentary 'Amy' reveals, the musician's father, Mitch Winehouse, thought everything was fine with her daughter. No wonder that Amy's father doesn't like Asif Kapadia's documentary.

It also appears from the film that Amy suffered from bulimia for years. At the age of 14, she ran into the room and announced: "I found the perfect diet. I'll eat the food, and then vomit it out!" Amy's parents didn't do anything about it. The bulimia got worse. People who have stayed respectfully quiet this far, talk in Kapadia's film. For example, Amy's childhood friends, who remember Amy as a little girl who preferred reading Schindler's List to running around outside. The film also reveals the reason why Amy started drinking again - she was bored.

There are several good documentaries on YouTube about Amy, but I'm not sure if I should recommend them. I wish I'd stuck with one film, but there's a pull in the tragic story of Amy's. The paparazzo images of a skinny, dirty Amy with bloody ballerinas and a husband who has been scratched bloody, are burned into the memory. But Amy is wonderful to me just because she wasn't a sweet and polished star. She was who she was. Genuine. If I think about it, I'm glad I watched films that opened different sides of Amy. YouTube is relentless - anyone can upload their own videos and there are plenty of Amy when she is high on the stage, incapable of singing. Sometimes the fans would support her by singing the songs to the end with her, sometimes they boo her off the stage. But nevertheless, Stellarium is stepping into the world of YouTube with the makeup video of Amy Winehouse, and this time you'll see Karim Sattar's tips on how to do the Amy Winehouse eye makeup, in addition to the photos. I wanted this makeover to have a bit of Amy and a bit of me. One question will always haunt me - what were the videos Amy watched of herself before she left for good?

Mõni aeg hiljem otsustasin, et teen Stellariumisse Amy Winehouse`i muutumismängu. See on olnud Stellariumi ajaloo kõige lõbusam pildiseeria.

Ehe. Ometi astub Stellarium just Amy Winehouse meigivideoga Youtube`i maailma ja sel korral näed sa lisaks fotodele Karim Sattari õpetust, kuidas teha Amy Winehouse`i silmameik.

See You In YouTube!

This July marks the four year anniversary of Amy Winehouse's death. In a few days, the anticipated documentary 'Amy' by Asif Kapadia is released, and this week I'm bringing you a makeover where Dr.Hauschka's international makeup artist Karim Sattar gives me a makeup inspired by Amy Winehouse.

The starting week is also interesting since Stellarium will publish the first video on YouTube. Here's a shot of when I went to check out the montage. In tandem with the Amy Winehouse makeover, Stellarium also has a generous giveaway coming up. All products Karim Sattar used when doing the Amy Winehouse makeup, will be part of both an Instagram and Facebook giveaway.

YouTube is full of fantastic channels, and I obviously have a vision for the face of Stellarium's YouTube. As well as the blog has evolved over time, it will surely be interesting for both myself and the readers to observe how the channel changes and (hopefully) evolves.  A funny story to go with it. A lot of my acquaintances and friends have seen the photos of the Amy Winehouse makeover and asked me if I smoked. I've replied no, I don't smoke. The cigarette in these photos is just an accessory. If I did smoke, I wouldn't hide it from my readers or friends, but I don't even know how to smoke. BTW...  I love watching only two-three makeup artists on YouTube and I'd be grateful if you wrote both Estonian and international YouTube channels that you love!

Tänavu juulis möödub Amy Winehouse`i surmast neli aastat. 3.juulil tuli kinodesse kauaoodatud Asif Kapadia dokumentaalfilm "Amy" ja uuel nädalal toon sinuni muutumismängu, kus Dr.Hauschka rahvusvaheline meigikunstnik Karim Sattar teeb mulle Amy Winehouse´ist inspireeritud meigi.

Seoses Amy Winehouse`i muutumismänguga on Stellariumil tulemas ka helde loos.

Paljud minu tuttavad-sõbrad, kes on näinud Amy Winehouse`i muutumismängu pilte, on minult nõutult küsinud: "Kas sa tõesti suitsetad? Mul polnud aimugi ..." Minu vastus on: "Ei. Ma ei suitseta." Sigaret on nendel fotodel lihtsalt aksessuaar.
